historical residence
bedford-katonah, NY
This beautiful property is the former home of an iconic photographer from the 1950’s-70’s. His home was purchased eventually by my clients and I was hired primarily to design a 200 foot-long berm which was previously created to shield noise from the main road. Throughout this vast space, I designed a perennial garden bed layered under large shrubs and small trees — all of which are canopied by various established 50- 80’ tall deciduous and evergreen trees. My design was inspired by the late artist and his love of color and drastic landscapes, (from Palm Springs to Palm Beach to Gstäad), but also very much so by my clients needs and desires! It’s a peaceful yet powerful place and I find that the growth habits of various species (roughy 70:30 native to non-invasive), inform much of the design decisions going forward. This communication is so fascinating to me as a Designer & Horticulturalist.
I also consult on planters, specimen trees and other landscape details for my clients at this residence.
